1948 - Ceylon (Sri Lanka) gets independent from British rule.
1959 - "Ruth Handler" makes first barbie doll.
1971 - British car manufacturer Rolls Royce declares bankruptcy.
1976 - 23000 people die due to severe earthquake in Guatemala.
1990 - Ernakulam is declared first completely literate district of India.
2004 - Massachusetts high court authorizes gay marriage.

1649 - King "Charles II" become prince of Wales.
1783 - Sweden recognizes USA's independence.
1783 - 30,000 people die due to severe earthquake in Calabria.
